Fans of the archer Clint Barton, known as Hawkeye, may be disappointed: actor Jeremy Renner has said that he has refused to take part in the second season of the Marvel series of the same name due to an "insulting offer" from the "cheapskates" at Disney. According to the actor, he was offered half the fee for the same amount of work, which was unacceptable to him.

Here's What We Know

Renner, who recently promoted his new book "My Next Breath: A Memoir" in an interview with High Performance, suggested that this low offer could have been influenced by his horrific accident in early 2023 when he was run over by a snowplow, causing more than 30 fractures and a long recovery period. The actor ironically asked if Disney thought he had become "half Jeremy" after the incident.

"They offered me to do the second season, but for half the money. I was like: "Well, it's going to take me twice as much work for half the money and eight months of my time, basically, to do it for half the amount," Renner said: "Excuse me? Why? Did you think I was only half Jeremy because I got run over? Is that why you want to pay me half of what I made in the first season?"

However, Renner made it clear that his anger was not directed at Marvel Studios or even the parent company Disney per se. He emphasised that he would love to return to the role of the sharp-shooting vigilante in the future.

"It's not Marvel, mind you. It's like just Disney, not even really Disney. They're just cheapskates, accountants. I told them to go to hell. Well, because of this insulting offer. So we didn't see eye to eye on that," Renner said.

"I still love the character. I would have loved to continue to do it, but I had to defend myself," Renner continued, "I didn't ask for more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made in the first season. So it's all very frustrating that it didn't happen, but it's okay. I'm happy to let it go because my body is probably thanking me over and over again for not doing it now. But we'll see."

It's worth noting that Renner's Hawkeye co-star Florence Pugh will return to the role of Elena Belova in the upcoming film Thunderbirds, which premieres this weekend.
