World: new cryptocurrency from the head of OpenAI with biometric security

Tools for Humanity, a startup led by Sam Altman, presented the World crypto platform in the United States. It allows the creation of a World ID, which is supposed to be used for authorisation on various online services: dating platforms, payment systems, forums and other digital spaces where identity confirmation is required.

The idea is simple but futuristic: a user undergoes an iris scan with an Orb device, receives a unique digital World ID and a reward in the form of WLD tokens.

There's also a simplified version of Orb - Orb Mini:
A retinal scan is converted into a unique hash code that proves that the person in front of the system is a real person, not an AI. This creates the basis for a reliable digital identity that can work in the face of the rapid growth of AI technology.
Verified users receive up to 150 WLDs. In the future, the company plans to issue a Visa debit card that can be used to pay with WLD in regular shops - with automatic conversion to fiat currency.

The project has already reached more than 12 million users in 100 countries since the launch of Tools for Humanity in 2019. In the US, Orb devices are available in six cities - Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville and San Francisco - as well as in Razer shops.
